Melukat is a Balinese tradition which can be a healing method to cleanse the soul and mind. Melukat is believed to help cleanse all negativity from within oneself, whether caused by negative thoughts or bad energy attached to the body.
Melukat is done using holy water known as tirtha. This ritual reflects the Balinese Hindu philosophy that water is an important element that not only supports physical life, but also spiritual life.
Melukat can be done by anyone, including non-Hindus. Melukat participants are not required to bring canang and offerings. They can pray according to their respective beliefs and religions, even though they are still accompanied by a Hindu religious leader or what is usually called a pedanda.
Several places in Bali that can be used as locations for wounding include:
- Desa Pekraman Sebatu, Gianyar Bali
- Pura Tirta Empul, wilayah Tampak Siring
- Pesiraman Sebatu atau Pura Dalem Pingit Sebatu
- Pura Campuhan Windhu Segara
- Pura Gua Giri Putri, Nusa Penida
- Pura Taman Mumbul, Sangeh
